2012 Pinewood Derby

Pinewood Derby is one of the high-points of the scouting career. A tradition that started in the early 1950's, Pinewood Derby is an exciting and creative activity where the scouts design and build cars from a pinewood block.

Scouts decide whether to make their car the best looking for a particular theme, the fastest car on the block, or both, while meeting all requirements in the Pinewood Derby rules.

Themes

This year, cars were placed into the theme categories Cub Scout, Automotive, Humorous, and History.

Here are the theme award winners.

Races

Cars were first raced by scout rank (Webelos 2, Webelos 1, Bears, Wolf, Tigers). The scouts with the fastest cars in their rank won trophies. The number of trophies awarded depended on the number of scouts in the rank. After the scout rank races we did an all pack race which is a double elimination race. See how close the race for 1st and 2nd place was. The last race we do is the turtle race where we race the last place cars from each rank race. The winner of the turtle race is the slowest of all the cars that cross the finish line. Here are the race award winners.

Here are the standings of all cars in each race.

Race 1 - Webelos 2     Race 2 - Webelos 1     Race 3 - Bears     Race 4 - Wolves     Race 5 - Tigers     Race 6 - Pack 134
